the Pavilion Four Series is a collection of art inspired by my time at the State mental hospital after a suicide attempt on December 17, 2019. I was released on Christmas eve of the same year, and went home to my family.
this series features Crayola marker and colored pencil drawings I made in a wide-ruled composition notebook during my stay, as well as films that reflect on my state of mind once leaving.
"Quiet Chaos" (2020)
directed and scored by Marwan Ramen, this collaborative film explores my journey from the emergency room to my release, featuring original digital collage work. It is a blurred compilation of hospital observations and psychiatric medication, as well as its effects on my mental health at the time.
A second version of this film is also available that includes an interview with Marwan Ramen on youtube.
"side effects" (2020)
This is a film compiled of stock footage and sound with my voice accompanying. It attempts to depict the struggles that comes with taking antidepressants such as sertraline. Although it may be necessary for some people to take medication, this necessity comes with risks.
